Alejandro Gómez Pareja

Born in Madrid, Spain, in 2002. Since 2016-2017 academic year, he studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music’s Aline Foriel-Destezet Cello Chair with professor Ivan Monighetti in 2016-2017, and with professor Jens Peter Maintz from 2017 until present. In 2020-2021 academic year, he received the Diploma to the most outstanding student of his chair. He has been granted scholarships by Consejería de Educación, Universidades y Ciencia de la Comunidad de Madrid and Fundación Albéniz

He has received awards in international and national competitions. He won first prize in International Competition City of Vic (2014), first prize ex aequo in the first edition of the Mundi Talent Awards (Málaga, 2018), first prize and special jury prize in 20th Villa de Llanes Competition (Llanes, 2018), first prize and audience prize in Galimusic-Fest Clasico Ribeira Sacra Competition (2020), second prize (category 9) in Gustav Mahler International Cello Competition (Prague, 2021) and first prize in Appassionato Jöel Klepal Competition (Caen, 2021). In 2022, he won the second prize (Special Prize Aena) in prestigious Galardon Internacional Pablo Casals for young cellists at El Vendrell.

He has performed as a soloist with National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Catalonia, Andrés Segovia Chamber Orchestra and Dreamers Orchestra, under the batons of Manel Valdivieso, Victor Ambroa and Ramon Torrelledo in Chamber Hall and Symphony Hall at Madrid’s National Auditorium. In 2021 he performed as a soloist, together with violinist Patricia Cordero, Brahms’ Double Concerto for cello and violin with Orquesta Freixenet conducted by David Afkham in the Symphony Hall of National Auditorium. In 2022 he was invited by Auditori of Barcelona to perform Shostakovitch’s first cello concerto with Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona and Nacional de Catalunya conducted by Alondra de la Parra.

He has also performed in recitals at Philharmonic Hall in Oviedo, at Jovellanos Theatre in Gijón, at Aviles House of Culture, at Casa Museo de la Moneda in Madrid, at Condestable Palace of Pamplona, as well as at the Villers-sur-Mer Festival (France) in summer of 2022.

He has received scholarships by Madrid’s Musical Youth and AIE, and has attended several summer festivals such as Bowdoin International Music Festival in Brunswick (Maine, USA), Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, Pablo Casals Festival in Prades and Mendelssohn Festival in Hamburg, where he received advice from Astrid Schween, Danjulo Ishizaka, Maria Kliegel, Orfeo Mandozzi, Emil Rovner, Torleif Thedeen, Jerome Pernoo, Frans Helmerson, Pablo Ferrández, as well as Krzysztof Chorzelski and Josep Puchades (chamber music). A significant experience in his musical life has been playing for Natalia Shakhovskaya, from whom he received valuable advice.

As a student of the School, he has been a member of the Freixenet Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Péter Eötvös, Pablo Heras-Casado, Juanjo Mena and Péter Csaba. He has been a soloist with Freixenet Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jordi Francés. He has also performed with Fundación EDP Camerata under the baton of Paul Goodwin and Christoph Poppen. In 2021 he participated in the 30th anniversary tour of the School with Freixenet Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada, with whom he performed at Madrid's Teatro Real, at Bratislava's Reduta Hall, at Budapest's Liszt Ferenc Academy and at Vienna's Musikverein.

He has also been part of the Casa de la Moneda Scarlatti Ensemble, Banco de España Arriaga Ensemble, Deloitte Mozart Ensemble, Cosan Trio, and Schumann Trio. He is currently a member of the Stoneshield Quartet.
